C run to Broad Acres Sunday 23 June
I'll lead a C run this coming Sunday. Meet at the BH at 09:00-ish for an 09:15 start. This ride is part of the Big Café Convergence #2/2024. See http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... =5&t=11074
The ride will be 81km (>50mi), over undulating terrain at an average of roughly 22-23kph (14mph). We'll stop at Broad Acres Fishery, near Hanbury, at roughly half distance. See https://ridewithgps.com/events/321507-c ... he-big-caf
Advance sign-up preferred. Pete Norman will be helping me, and if more than eight people want to ride, we'll split into two groups, one led by me and one by Pete.
I'll be celebrating forty years as a Beacon member a couple of days after the ride. To mark the occasion, I'll be riding a bike dating from roughly the time that I joined the club, and doling out anniversary cake to Beaconites at the café. Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to benefit from my chocolaty largesse.
Final rider list:
George Barker (L)
Colin Hall
Alex Hopcroft
Leigh Hopkins
Andy McGrath
Adrian McHugh
Pete Norman (2L)
Noel O'Dwyer
Mark Stammers
Dave Stephenson
Joel Subash
Jonathan Turner
Simon Turner
Si Walker
Alan Weaver
Final list of café privateers:
Jane Herrin
John Hitchcock
Anne Hughes
Dave Hughes
Martin McGowan
Andy Terry
Tony Webb

Haha, flattery will get you everywhere, Pete! I was in my mid-twenties. As an aside, John Hitchcock *did* join as a teenager. Consequently, although we're almost exactly the same age, he's been a member for nearly 10 years longer. As far as I'm aware, the club's longest serving members are Mavis Williams, Oscar Hopkins and Alan Nicholls, all of whom have been members since the 1950s. The longest-serving member whom you're likely to meet out and about on a bike is Dave Hughes, who has been a member since the 1960s.PeteNorman wrote: ↑18 Jun 2024 17:26Hi George!

Can you post the route please? It isn’t on the link.
See you Sunday, sign up one and all! Pete

Apologies for initially leaving the route off the RwGPS event. (I thought I had added it, but must have failed to confirm the addition or something.) Anyway, that's remedied now, so the link at the top *does* lead to the route.

I'll meet you there, George.
Re: C run to Broad Acres Sunday 23 June
Great. Look forward to seeing you, Andy.
Re: C run to Broad Acres Sunday 23 June
Thanks everyone for helping to make today's ride and gathering a day to remember.
We had a good turnout, so at Bell Heath we divided into a C group led by Pete and a C+ group (actually more like slow B pace) led by me. I've added the names I can remember to the 'privateer' list in the top post, but I feel that the main run list is short of at least one name (I'm sure that there were more than ten of us in total). Can anyone help me out there?

Thanks for organising George, and thanks also for the cake, it was indeed very nice. Some squirty cream might be nice next time
